Polymer-based batteries- All solid-state electrical energy storage
Abstract: In the age of fluctuating renewable energy production and consumption using wind, hydroelectric and solar energy, the need for energy storage becomes a very important matter to guarantee energy whenever and wherever needed independent of wind and sunshine conditions. Both chemical and electrical energy storage needs to be further developed to fully exploit the renewables and thus to contain the global warming and CO2 emissions arising out of fossil fuel consumption. Moreover, electric mobility demands the supply of stored electrical energy in batteries and supercapacitors with high energy and power density. In this talk, the fundamentals of electrical energy storage will be discussed, with special emphasis on Lithium Ion Batteries (LIB); the pioneering research in this field being awarded with Nobel prize in Chemistry this year. The speaker also would like to summarize their activities towards solvent-free solid state batteries. His own research activities in this field of polymer-based batteries will be finally discussed briefly. Here, novel polymer architectures and optimization of solid polymer electrolyte-cathode interface will be addressed.
