Advances in Hemodynamic Monitoring for Early Disease Diagnosis
Abstract: Hemodynamic monitoring involves measuring cardiovascular parameters like blood pressure, perfusion pressure, cardiac output, and vascular resistance to assess circulatory system function. Recent advances in wearable hemodynamic monitoring technologies enable earlier disease diagnosis by detecting subtle anomalies in cardiovascular dynamics before outward symptoms manifest. This talk will briefly describe a technology to measure blood pressure via smartphone-based devices with a single press on the sensor. The later phase of this talk will discuss the prospect of using this technology to measure a new hemodynamic parameter called tissue perfusion pressure—the pressure at which the heart perfuses blood to the end organs. In summary, this talk surveys an exciting advancement in cuffless blood pressure monitoring via wearables and how it could be applied to develop new diagnostic biomarkers for early detection of cardiovascular diseases.
