A Journey through Sustainable Road Freight, Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control and Vehicle Sideslip Estimation

Abstract

Carbon emission is one of the most important challenges of the 21st century. A significant source of carbon emission is the road freight sector. This talk will cover some of the research activities in Sustainable Road Freight with the aim of reducing carbon emission. The second part of the talk will explain a level 3 autonomous driving technology called Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control. Design of a Fault Tolerant Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control will also be covered. The final part of the talk will cover Vehicle Sideslip Estimation, an important state estimation problem for active vehicle safety systems. The sideslip estimation method, which exploits an innovative load sensing bearing technology from SKF, will be explained using simulation as well as experimental results.
