Dr. Chaitanya Paramatmuni, a mechanical engineer trained in mechanics of materials for manufacturing digital twins, joined Department of Mechanical Engineering in December 2024. Before joining the institute he was a postdoctoral research associate within the SAFER program at The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. He pursued doctoral studies on micromechanics of defect nucleation and growth in magnesium alloys at Imperial College London, UK (2020) and M.S. (by research) at IIT Madras, India (2017).
He is an active professional member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IoM3) and is recognized as an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) for his teaching skills that comply with UK professional framework standards. He enjoys trekking, food and music.

Research
Under the umbrella of the mechanics of materials for manufacturing, his research interest broadly has been a synergistic experimental-numerical approach to understand mechanical behaviour and structural integrity of materials during manufacturing and in-service. He specializes in Computational and Experimental (Micro)Mechanics, and integrates these insights with digital twins to understand the evolution of mechanical properties during manufacturing and the performance of engineering components in-service.
