A random string among random obstacles
We will start with an introduction to Gibbs distributions and explain why it is useful to study the partition function of such distributions. We next describe a model of a random string evolving in Rn among random obstacles of finite width up to a fixed time T. The string dies when any part of it hits an obstacle. This model is given by a Gibbs distribution and we look at the partition function of this distribution, which is simply the probability that the string survives up to time T.
